Live in North-West London for pretty much the whole my life and I'm heading to my first university event tomorrow. It's gonna be at the students bar for pretty much the entire night, however I gotta head home in the region of 11PM to make definite I catch the tube on time since it's gonna take nearly 70 minutes to head back home.

But as I've never especially hung around there in the past (apart from during university open days), plus having heard a bunch of lovely tales of the sporadic stabbing and theft there, as well as it being a by and large rough area, I'm feeling a little apprehensive about safety there. D:

So would anyone from Lewisham mind filling me in about what the area is truly like? What should I do along with not do? What areas should I avoid? Should I be all right walking back from the bar to New Cross/New Cross Gate station at near 11PM on a Friday night?

It ain't almost as bad as people make out. I occasionally go home by means of Lewisham from nights out and it's quite busy, keep to the major roads and you'll be alright.

Be careful in the region of New Cross / New Cross Gate / Deptford areas. Stay alert and don't exhibit off your valuables... plenty of snatches also robberies close to there, and likely to be worse than usual over coming month as the crims target the recent students.

Stay alert and mindful and you should be fine!

I've in no way had a problem. I'm a lass and I used to get back from work at midnight and walk 15 minutes home from the station on my own.

I'm a short girl who tends to walk home lonesome late due to work, in the month I've lived in the region I've not had any danger at all apart from the odd cat call.

Lewisham isn't as wayward as it used to be- it's becoming fairly gentrified however that doesn't mean the elements that made it unsavoury are not here so just take precautions as you would on foot anyplace late at night.

That said, what I believe is Europe's biggest police station is in Lewisham plus the area you're chatting about is now pretty fashionable with revelers- in particular at this time of year among Freshers- with the number of bars popping up there along with the station itself will be full of activity at that time so don't be troubled too much about walking from the area I suppose you're going to be in to the station. The station itself and the roads I am presuming you're going to be walking along won't be quiet at that time of night on a Friday.

If all else fails a taxi will charge just a couple of quid.

Have fun.
