What are you interested in? Hobbies? etc...

Most of my acquaintances come from my hobbies. There are a lot of clubs/courses/nights for pretty much any activity in London!

Either that or take an evening class. Citylit has a range of exciting courses. Not only could you make friends but learning something interesting/useful/career progression.

I love cinema, television shows (Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, Dexter, Falling Skies...), hiking, travelling...

There are quite a few 'TV' quiz nights around. I don't know of any from those shows although I saw the Monarch in Camden has a Game of Thrones quiz evening. plus there's quite a few comic ones around.

As for cinema, what about joining a cinema club? The Museum of London has a Docklands one or maybe try BFI?

as for some of your further hobbies, a swift google found Outdooraholics London for hiking?

Oxford Street and come up to women / chat to guys on coffee shops, comic book stores or whatever is your hobby. Also, if you are in a gym, talk to people. Coffee shops also work.

Social sports has worked well for me in the past.

Agreed, i just moved here as well 7 weeks ago, and ive just got into Touch Rugby (http://www.in2touch.com/england/) and yeah, the people appear pretty friendly, so perhaps a social sports thing might be the way to go.
