Off the top of my head:
The Cheshire Cheese on Fleet street - one of the oldest pubs in London
The Mitre on Hatton Garden - used to be piece of the palace (?) of the Bishop of Ely, the Met have only had control there for a a small amount of years
Prospect of Whitby in Wapping -Oldest riverside pub in London. It still has a hangman's noose outside. And you get to drink by the river
The Black Friar in Blackfriars - very cool sandstone reliefs (sp?) all over the place
Lamb and Flag in Covent Garden - again, one of the oldest pubs in the area. gets awfully busy though.
Seven Stars on Carey St near Holborn (WC2A 2JB) - tiny, tumbledown and the pub cat wears a ruff.
hope that helps mate! if you would like any more, let me know!

The Porterhouse in Covent Garden
With all due respect to the Harp, it is a pale shadow of the Porterhouse in that regard.
The Jerusalem Tavern, 55 Britton St, EC1M 5UQ
I love the Durrell arms down in parson green. Only go there if you're close by can be an neighborhood to get to.
Holborn whippet is a fantastic pub. loads of ales.
For some rock hit Our Black Heart in Camden!!
Not precisely the interior called for though though.
