Museums are always an option.

Kew Gardens is possibly my favorite thing.

Last time I looked, ~£25 a voucher to get in! breathtaking place, but pretty expensive!

Would a day trip to Hampton Court be excessively touristy? More of a destination than an event, but it's a fantastic place to wander and rubberneck.
The walk to Kingston from HC down the river is a fantastic one as well. HC is a tad 'furtniturey' on the inside, although the grounds are beautiful.
I've visited a number of times over the years (I'm a Yank) for the reason that I'm a history character and I get off on the alien architectural collection as well as the gardens.

You ought to look more frequently -- it's never been above £15 a ticket.

First thing that comes to mind is the museums. I love that London is one of the a small amount of places where so much is presented for free. as well as so many good restaurants. Not lunch specialized but I can suggest a ton of good restaurants! heaps of more pricey ones, I.e. celebrity chef or Michelin star, do good lunch deals cause they don't get the clientele as much then so are way more affordable. Or toptable (they've got deals on 50% off food for a new pub called The Truscott Arms that does exceptional food in the restaurant part). I was going to urge SoundFjord.org as something uncommon but they've just gone itinerant and their calendar doesn't have anything programmed right now. Worth keeping an eye on though cause it's a truly cool and distinctive idea.
