Yeah I'm up for that - give it a go as I get a full hour and in no way know what else to do for the 30 minutes I have after eating so I tend to just go back and work.

Thanks for making this post, I have recently moved from Great Portland Street to Holborn. There is a little pathway that runs sandwiched between Waitrose and Pret (I think the road/path is called Little Turnstile), there are two good Italian's along there, the one that is not called Valentinos does very good eat in pasta dishes for £5.00

Edit: for position clarify

Fleet River! So yum. You'll have to spend some of your own money tho.

If you're ready to go a little further, http://essexeating.blogspot.co.uk/2009/01/clerkenwell-lunch-options-part-2-moro.html does a street stall on Exmouth Market each day where you can find a delicious meal for precisely a fiver.

On your way you could easily get distracted by Leather Lane Market. Highlights for me include Daddy Donkey (burritos), Soya (bento), Kitchenette (salt beef sandwich), Pie Minister (pies!!!), there's also a hog roast stall, Japanese omelet (okinimiyaki) stall, steamed pork/duck roll stall along with others.

Japanese Canteen
I tried them but the food wasn't that great. Is it usually decent? My chicken teriyaki just seemed soggy :(
I'd almost certainly just keep going totally on sushi from Itsu if I was you.
OP barely has a fiver :-P

Which part of Holborn are you? Covent Garden or towards Chancery Lane?

If the latter, I can suggest the following:

  • representing burritos, try either Daddy Donkey by Leather Lane, or Adobo next to High Holborn. I actually favor the latter, though DD is awesome

  • There's an Itsu by Holborn station, I really like their salads as well as udon pots

  • There's a fantastic Vietnamese house called Banh Mi Bay on the corner of Grays Inn Road and Theobalds Road. Amazing baguettes to take away, and the sit-down chow looks grand too.

  • At the same crossroads, there's a pizza/pasta place called Malletti, definitely worth checking out.

  • For falafel/kebab wraps, check out King of Falafel at the very top of Leather Lane. I swear beside that place, am there every week. Equally, there's a new-ish place called Meal Deal further along Leather Lane that does good chicken wraps very cheaply.

I am so hungry right now, dammit.

+1 for Daddy Donkey

+1 for Maletti, if you're ever in SoHo on a weekday the original shop is there

+1 for Banh Mi Bay, which I discovered yesterday

And King of Falafel is on my list of places to go

It's summer right now, although come the autumn/winter you'll want a full roast dinner for lunch, perfect - at the very top of Chancery Lane next to Chilango will prepare you, beef, pork or turkey along with roast tatties, veg, stuffing and gravy for a fiver.

Spend £5 in waitrose, munch in Lincolns Inn park :)

I'm pretty certain wasabi is cheaper than itsu, you could find lunch for a fiver if you take out.
