The Euston Tap for beer
Not in this weather. It's practically an outdoors pub and it's bloody cold outside.

Caravan at kings cross - amazing food

Lived in Islington for many years. A few suggestions.

"Proper dining" - The Almeida. Look for offers on toptable.co.uk: it's good, but not as good as it thinks it is and it's worth getting a deal (midweek dinner or lunch is usually available). French style, good service, pleasant atmosphere.

Burgers - Byron. Best chain, consistently, in London.

Pub food - http://www.marquesstavern.co.uk/. Good beers, nice food, a cut above standard pub fare.

Someone mentioned the Hope Cafe on Holloway Road. It's fine if you're hungover but pretty standard stodge: no reason to go out of your way.

Pizza: Firezza on St Paul's Road. Top-notch.

If you're in Kings X, agree Caravan is very nice. Sort of tapas style, better for lunch than dinner in my opinion, but not a cheap lunch. Coffee's not bad. There's also Leon, inside the station, which is just about the best fast food you can get in London.

Enjoy.

If you're engrossed in Scotch, The Queen's Head on Acton Street has a rather nice selection, as well as the best porter I've ever had. The Lexington on Pentonville Road also has a bulky bourbon selection, but not sure if you're keen on that.
Nice, I love dark beers. Do you recollect the name of it? And I do like a good bourbon too (more consistently than scotch honestly - I don't like peat)
If you try the Four Roses Small Batch at the Lexington you'll be plastered by the time you decide to try anything else

The Draper's Arms on Barnsbury St. is a good shout. Some top beers, and the food is excellent. It's on a quiet street, and a great place to sit and enjoy a pint of Brooklyn. The Albion on Thornhill Road is brilliant too.

Pfft, it's positively summery today, I haven't even worn a jacket. He/she doesn't say when this trip is going to be either.

It's called the Black Isle Brewery Organic Porter, though if you come in and ask for 'the porter' I'm sure you'll be fine.

Also, a word of caution, The Lexington tends to turn into a discotheque in the evenings (not sure if this is true during weeknights as well as weekends, but certainly true for weekends), so if you prefer your drink in a quiet environment, best to go ahead in the day.

Le mercury is good French food but be prepared for a long wait, place is packed usually and they don't take reservations.

That sounds like a challenge.
