If you are chatting about the bridge next to the Bow Flyover, then I live in that area. I've been here for nearly 3 years now, and can say that it's a good place to live. The traffic racket takes a bit of getting used to, although now I don't even take notice of it anymore. If walking or cycling, you ought to be a bit careful on the Bow Flyover roundabout. It's very busy, and people drive too fast around it. Two cyclists were killed on it within the space of a month. This was a couple of years ago though.

The Morgan Arms in Bow is a quite nice place. The food can be a bit hit and miss - occasionally it's great, othertimes not so. It does boast a good atmosphere though. You've also got the Westfield Stratford, which has a few good places to eat (plus shops, cinema & casino). For breakfast, we've only been to Gardiners (E3 4PH). It's a bit small (hard to get a seat), but the food is good. If you like asian food, then it's worth trying Zains, Kiismat Diner (try the lamb saag!) and Tayyabs.

The transport links are first-rate - good bus service, loads of tube stations close by, easy to get out of London if you have a car. You'll also be right next to National Cycle Route 1, which goes from Dover to the Shetland Islands. I used to use this route to commute to Essex, which was great (no cars), especially in the summer.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I think you'll like living in the area - I've got no regrets.

Hey thanks for the great reply! I'm in fact a bit closer to stratford here but the Morgan Arms looks really nice - I'll certainly give it a go!

Cheers for the restaurant reviews I'll test them out in particular the lamb sag!

I normally get the tube but I'd be game for giving cycling a go - but perhaps the Bow roundabout isn't best for a first try!

I disagree concerning the morgarms in that the environment is good enough, but the food is usually disappointing, not least for the reason that their prices are at the higher end of the restaurant spectrum, but the food is fundamentally pub-grub.

If you're going to venture as far as mile end for breakfast/food, you ought to also try the fat cat, the crown, or any of the tons of cafes (lebanese, algerian, british) cafes down burdett road.

There's also a great restaurant near that area called ariana, which has totally amazing persian and afghan food

The king edward pub in stratford is by far the best place for pubgrub/roast etc, and is a decent pub too. There's also a wetherspoons nearby that stays open until 1am if you want a later drink, and a little adventure

tayyabs is brilliant! at the back of the mosque in white chapel. It's cheap and no no baloney and a pretty distinctive experience. Allways a queue, but well worth going to as it'll move pretty fast.

The Red Lion in Leytonstone is a lovely little pub, something you'd not think to stumble on in the area. I know it's not stratford but its a 10min bus or 4 min tube ride away.

Stratford is kinda shit now. Some nice new Olympic flats that are very unfortunately next to a loud road. Tube connections are awesome. Would maybe be hard to get home from a late night out. It's prime for gentrification. There is not much out here other then Westfield.I'm sure this will change. Value has no where to go but up.

Hampstead is way better.

If not for the racket and the fact it's going to look too modern I would have bought out there. I got a place in Chelsea instead.

Plan B: Stay in Hampstead get the flat in Stratford only if it is a new build. Rent it out and find someone else to pay the mortgage. Pad it a bit. Make the lease so you can a fiddle with the price. Move there once the area gets better and a good portion of the house is paid off.

Thanks but I've already made my choice of where I'm moving to - I thoroughly liked Hempstead but it got a bit dry, I continuously felt like nothing was changing - no new bars no fresh restaurants.

I hope Chelsea is working out for you, but I'm moving into a flat next to the river and backing onto what will be the largest park in London - I think it's a pretty great spot and whilst the area might not be the best now, it almost undoubtedly will be soon.

Hampstead is a nice are. Your not meant to go out in Hampstead it's just a place to live. If you get out you GO OUT. Does London have new bars and restaurants? Stratford is more dry. a great deal more.

River in Stratford? Park? What?

Yes, like is said it's going to get better. perhaps you should look into docklands. The first flat I lived in when I moved back was there. I only moved out for the reason that I don't want to wait for the area to get better.

My meaning is that I wasn't looking for recommendations where to live but for reccomendations in the region I am going to live in.

there are abundant bus stops and at least one train station that run services that leave stratford behind you
