Good on you for not thieving the cash.
Indeed, I can't put up with the keepers mentality that some of my otherwise most moralizing friends have.
If no one claims it, I think it's pretty fair that you should keep it though. If it goes to the police, where is it going to end up?

See, that's the stance I hate. bother handing it in, they'll only pinch it - we have no incentive to have faith in this. Think how you'd feel - if I'd lost the cash I'd be reporting the loss and hoping somebody out there would do the right thing for me.

No, you're right to give it in but if no one claims it after that what happens to it?

Then in the terms frequently employed, you get it back.

Well I guess either the legal owner will get it back or you will thanks to your honesty so it's a win/win!

A friend told me a story one time about how she went to use an ATM and there was £300 sticking out waiting to be collected. She kept it. I would've handed it in ASAP. That could've been someone's rent cash or food for their kids or whatever.
If you see that in the future, don't take it out and give it in. Just stand there stopping anybody else nicking it and after a minute (actually, 30 seconds I think) the ATM will suck the notes back in and re-credit the account.
I had no clue they did that. I might try it myself. Thanks.

I saw a guy walk away from an atm for the reason that it was taking to long and then it spat out his cash. I called him back. Who takes somebody else's money?
how did you know his number?
