Enjoyed my time but can't wait to leave. It's been a year, rent is excessively high. Aces and Eights is all right though. proper shops and walking distance to Kentish Town/Camden. Nearby cinema next to Holloway road.

I have it on good authority from an Irish friend that the Boston is the only proper Irish boozer he's found in London.
PS: Make sure you try the Pineapple if not already.

Upsides
- inexpensive rent (I live in a nice 1 bedroom property)
- 8 minute walk to the tube and then 20-25 mins into central
- incredibly safe, nothing bad happens here, barely any anti-social behaviour or anything that would make you feel unsafe at night
- Wouldn't even be on the radar if a further London riots style thing happened again
Downsides
- Doesn't truly feel like London, just a regional town that happens to have a tube line linked to it
- mostly full of tory voters so nothing really happens and nothing changes either.
- Populated mostly by old people and middle class families. About as as you can get
- Property is pricey to buy (although this is applicable for the whole city)
Hammersmith
+Could walk to uni in about 40mins (South Ken.)
+Great transport links
+The Crabtree is a nice pub right on the river, and was just around the corner
+I felt pretty secure there (although on one occasion a housemate got mugged on our road, eep!)
+The Apollo has some good music acts & comedians on a standard basis
-The flyover is completely minging. Traffic in general is a bit crap.
-Quite restricted nightlife (although generally I am more of a pub-man anyway so not a huge problem)
-Rents getting a bit steep
Overall I really enjoyed my time living there and it was all the rage with students, got a bit bored of it though!
Kennington
+Much better commute for my gf (who works near Mornington Crescent, Hammersmith was a bit junk for there) thanks to the Northern Line. I can get a bus nonstop to uni. Good transport links in general.
+Nice selection of pubs; yet to settle on a favourite.
+Decent value for money rentwise - got a much larger place than in Hammersmith for the same rent
+Nice park at the end of the road
Don't really have any negatives yet but I've only been here a couple of weeks so I'm assured that will soon change! Good initial impressions, anyway. Who says south of the river has to be bad?
Always seemed quite quiet to me though. Whereabouts are the good pubs etc? anyplace selling good coffee?
I don't drink coffee, sorry! There is a café opposite Pizza Express that has a nice assortment of cakes and breads that might be worth a look though...
I've lived in the same page of the A-Z for 30 years.
I live between Mile End & Bow Road Station and I generally love it:
- Directly next to a nature reserve/London's most inner-city woodland: Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park.
- Tourist free
- complete transport links (25 and buses to Dalston, etc. - Centra, District, Hammersmith & City tube. All within 5min walk)
- Close to all East-London (Brick Lane/ Shorditch /Dalston). Can take a walk to Broadway Market along the canal, or a 10min bus trip to Brick Lane.
- Regent's Canal / Mile End Park fantastic place to enjoy the sun
- Fried chicken
Rent is a bit pricey for what it is, but being able to completely escape the city for a bit by going into the graveyard park is worth a lot.
Really not that keen on living in Dalston/Homerton/Hackney Wick or something, just for the reason that they have only bus/overground. For me the textbook home is a quite place in a good location with fantastic transport links. I don't object taking a bus or bike to go to a party.
