No, it's OK. Mile End Park is nice. Tredegar Square is in Mile End: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=tredegar+square&source=lnms&tbm=isch

...as is The Greedy Cow: http://www.greedycow.com/

...and the Morgan Arms: http://www.morganarmsbow.com/

North of Mile End Road is by and large a little nicer than south of it.

Agreed on all points above. I lived on the QMUL campus for a year and spent a decent bit of time (day and night) wandering round Mile End. Never had a problem—it's just a case of your wits about you. canal's lovely, and Mile End Park and Leisure Centre is rather nice. The Greedy Cow is a fantastic restaurant. It's also a short walk or bus journey away from a Lidl and a big Sainsbury's, which makes food shopping especially convenient.

Used to have the nickname 'Murder Mile End' while I was younger. Take from that what you will.

Mile End isn't to bad. There is a cute little park there and a a small number of reasonable places to eat. I went to Queen Mary for six months and in no way had a problem down there.

I just got back from a month at QMUL and found no troubles with the area. While I wouldn't walk outside unaccompanied at night, I wouldn't do that anywhere. I never felt unsafe. I am a adolescent female, if that makes a difference.

The clue is in the name End It's called that for the reason that you run a mile before you meet your end, stabbed with a knife by a veiled youth.

comparable in France, right?
I was joking. Mile End is fine. Mile End is massive, like London is. It's not possible for a whole area to be shit.

Why is tower hamlets so bad? I have only be there a a small number of times, so don't know it so well. Is crime acute there?
Some of the exceptionally inferior people in the city work there

Hackney has some extremely nice bits. Shoreditch, Mare Street, Clapton Square, Broadway Markey/London Fields, Victoria Park Village and Stoke Newington Church Street are altogether super affluent.

Tower Hamlets has the Tower, Wapping, Limehouse, Canary Wharf, and some of the spillover from Shoreditch. Parts of Stepney have also been absolutely regenerated.

EDIT: Also Dalston is really up and coming these days.

Oi! Nothing wrong with Hounslow, it's a bit dirty in places (we're working on demolishing Feltham) but come to Chiswick, hands down the best region in London, no question.

And that Hounslow vid is roughly 10 years out of date. It's still not great, but it's orders of magnitude better than when that was filmed.
