I live in Tufnell Park more or less above a filthy rock bar. My whole time in London has been spent someplace in NE London and all my friends inhabit in the area. That is probably the main reason I love it.

I also love Camden and pretty much all the additional reasons you have too.

Hackney represent. It's just ace, all the time. i know we get a bit of shove for the Hipsters, but hey, I quite like going to the pub and finding it's turned into a pop-up laser rib shack since last week. Plus the park is lovely, it's very well connected, and there's always something going on each night. I've lived in a number of parts of London but this one feels like home to me.
Hackney is a full borough, can you be more specific.
I live at the top of Victoria Park, just on the Homerton border, but I kinda like the entire borough tbh.

How is it? As a North Londoner I find it's terrible if there are any traffic issues, as its almost always bus as the only option.

It has gotten a lot better with the overground replacing the old east London line mind. But I still imagine we should be doing more.

That's the funny thing. I'm not that close to a tube. The next is Mile End, which is a ten minute-ish walk I guess. But I've also got the mainline rail from London Fields (So, nearly 8 mins to Liverpool Street), the overground at Homerton or Hackney Central, and more buses than you can shake a stick at. It's easy to get to the DLR, the overground for west london, or the tube for central. I was concerned about it to start but have found it to be very straightforward to get about, and to get out of the city too, as well as handy for airports etc if needed.

I think the one thing that might be easier is getting to south-west London, I've got some friends down in Wandsworth and it normally takes an age, even with the new circle overground, but hey-ho.

Just moved from Hammersmith (lived there for 2 years) to Kennington:

Hammersmith

+Could walk to uni in about 40mins (South Ken.)

+Great transport links

+The Crabtree is a nice pub right on the river, and was just around the corner

+I felt pretty secure there (although on one occasion a housemate got mugged on our road, eep!)

+The Apollo has some good music acts & comedians on a standard basis

-The flyover is completely minging. Traffic in general is a bit crap.

-Quite restricted nightlife (although generally I am more of a pub-man anyway so not a huge problem)

-Rents getting a bit steep

Overall I really enjoyed my time living there and it was all the rage with students, got a bit bored of it though!

Kennington

+Much better commute for my gf (who works near Mornington Crescent, Hammersmith was a bit junk for there) thanks to the Northern Line. I can get a bus nonstop to uni. Good transport links in general.

+Nice selection of pubs; yet to settle on a favourite.

+Decent value for money rentwise - got a much larger place than in Hammersmith for the same rent

+Nice park at the end of the road

Don't really have any negatives yet but I've only been here a couple of weeks so I'm assured that will soon change! Good initial impressions, anyway. Who says south of the river has to be bad?

Shad Thames in Bermonsey. I love it here.

  • 10 mins walk to London Bridge station and Tower Hill. I have access to 4 tube lines which get me nearly all places in central London quickly, counting the lovely Jubilee line. Quick rail to Gatwick, tube to Heathrow not so bad.

  • I live inside 10 minutes walk of 3 food markets plus a gin distillery, 15 minutes walk from 3 breweries. just the thing for a Saturday.

  • I can get up to Shoreditch, Spitalfields, Old Street and Brick Lane rapidly but don't have to deal with the crowds there if I don't want to.

  • I get to see breathtaking architecture every day from the old (Tower of London, Tower Bridge and St. Pauls) to the new (City Hall plus the Shard).

  • Tons of fantastic pubs, cafes, restaurants etc nearby.

  • We get heaps of exciting festivals at the little park by the river (Potters Field). It's nice just to sit there and have a picnic by the river surrounded by classic London sights.

The bad:

  • Rent is pretty high.

  • tons of tourists, but everybody in central London has.

  • There isn't much live music or shopping here, if that's your thing.

Elephant. Need I say more?
I'm so sorry.

Croydon here. It's hideous and soiled but it has good pubs if you stay away from the chav holes like Tiger Tiger, masses of good restaurants. It's straightforward to get into London swiftly and you can get a train home all night. I don't feel it'll ever do a Shoreditch though, it's too cumbersome a town for a start.

Speaking of Shoreditch, it's gone too far, and more or less gotten carried away with its own hipsterness. All the scummy pubs are poncey now, and ridiculously expensive. Ruined in my opinion.

Bermondsey, near The Blue.

Love the building, the flat is so current and big, but the area I'm not overly enthusiastic on. Nothing to do with it in terms of danger or anything, just that I find it has very little to do, no much cafes or bars to visit.

It does have the number 1 bus go directly through, so can be on The Strand in about 20mins, so relatively good for access into the centre of London, and takes me 30mins from door to door to get to work on Goswell Road.

Did stay in West Brompton before which I totally loved, so many little places to visit, was constantly finding something new and was 'about' 45mins to work.

Bermondsey has a number of great places. Joses, the hide. Nice pub on bermondsey st as well although the name escapes me.

I'm gonna take your positive point and visit Potters Field tomorrow, keep passing it, never been in.

I lived on the river on the Isle of Dogs:

Pros Can't beat the transport options: Jubilee line, DLR Buses, Thames Clipper. Not to mention Boris Bikes. painless walk to Greenwich via the Greenwich Rape Tunnel. Can run or chill on the riverbank where there is nearly always a breeze keeping stuff nice. Shopping options at Canary Wharf. Safe (in parts). Locals along with internationals alike are there.

Cons Not easy walking distance to Zone 1. Too children oriented - not really a young crowd. Not much to do at night other than go to a pub.
